The Jesus for Jamaica outreach was birthed 15 years ago
when the Lord spoke to the heart of Linda Botkin while on a one day trip to the
island of Jamaica. Her heart was broken by what she saw and her life would
never be the same again. She went to the high mountains where she began ministering to the people she met. She gave Bibles, shoes, clothing and words of encouragement to the people she met along the paths. Most people lived in small shanties, sometimes seven or eight children sleeping in one bed. They had very little food, many times no shoes and no means to send their children to school. She found the people to be kind, caring and open to the word of GOD. Her heart was broken by the things that break the heart of GOD. Determined to help, she spent the next three years, inviting friends and family to join her in Jamaica to help spread the GOOD NEWS. A few years later while doing ministry on the Western part of the island, a family gave ancestral land to Linda for a church to be built. Linda returned to the states and was able to raise enough money and recruited 37 people to return to the jungle area of Chamber's Pen and built a church. The church thrived with over 200 people attending the first service. Many have been saved and baptized through the efforts of caring Christians. After moving from place to place and sleeping on school
floors, churches, and sharing housing with natives in their little houses, GOD
opened up a home for the ministry to lease. This has become the base camp
for JFJ and is located on the Caribbean Sea. Located there for eleven
years, the ministry has been able to build houses for the poor, built and
furnished a basic school, built a soup kitchen, started a computer school,
opened the second soup kitchen and are in the process of building a clinic and
half way house for street families. GOD has shown favor time and again,
having the Prime Minister of Jamaica give land twice to the ministry for
building projects. Teams of short term missionaries have joined the army of GOD to help bring forth the GOOD NEWS THAT GOD IS ALIVE IN JAMAICA.
